Our History


Lifeplan Funds Management is a friendly society, an organisation that is an amalgamation of many other friendly societies. Their purpose was to provide financial assistance and services to members and their dependants in times of hardship, sickness and distress. From humble, yet important beginnings, Lifeplan has grown steadily to be a leading Australian specialist Funds Manager with $1.6 billion in funds under management.

Many of our members today, and their parents and grandparents were members of the friendly societies that have become part of Lifeplan. You might have heard of some of them: Manchester Unity IOOF, Mutual Community, National Pharmacies, Australia Natives Association, Druids, Foresters, Rechabites – District 81, Hibernians, Protestant Alliance, Free Gardeners, Investment Action, Stateguard, Norwich Union Friendly Society and Savings and Loans Friendly Society.

Lifeplan today is a national market leader in the markets in which it operates and has over 140 staff across three offices in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. A leading provider of investment bonds, education savings plans and funeral bonds, Lifeplan also offers loans, term deposits and travel services.
